Matt Wethington is the Senior Pastor of Riverbend Baptist Church.

Matt is married to Melissa and they have three children: Elizabeth, William and Caroline.

He received his education from the University of Alabama, where he was also a member of the football team. Matt graduated from Alabama in 1994 with a BS degree in Commerce and Business Administration.  He majored in accounting and began his career with Price-Waterhouse Coopers in Birmingham. Later he joined the Birmingham News as a staff accountant.  Throughout his college and professional career Matt sensed God calling him to vocational ministry. In the fall of 1997 Matt said goodbye to corporate America and joined the staff of First Baptist Church Snellville in Snellville, Georgia. Matt served at Snellville as Assistant Pastor of Administration until 2002 when he was called to serve as Associate Pastor of First Baptist Church Sugar Hill in Sugar Hill, Georgia. In 2005 Matt joined the staff of Riverbend as Senior Pastor.  Matt is a graduate of Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a MA in Theological Studies degree.

Matt’s favorite Bible Verse is Acts 4:13; “When they saw the courage of Peter and John and realized they were unschooled, ordinary men they were astonished and they realized they had been with Jesus.” NIV

Favorite Food: Steak and Potatoes

Favorite Sports Teams: Alabama Crimson Tide and whoever is playing Auburn; New York Yankees

Hobbies: Playing at Golf and deer hunting
